Smiles & Miles
Smiles & Miles
Smiles and Miles is my space where I share my journey of healing, strength, and growth after surviving domestic partner abuse. As a single mom of two teenagers, a traveler, and a business creator, I offer personal stories, practical advice, and support for women navigating life after leaving an abusive situation. Through this blog, I aim to inspire others to move forward, break through shame, and create new, empowered paths to a brighter future.
While this blog isn't specifically about running, becoming a runner has taught me the value of putting in the miles. Every journey, big or small, is made up of little steps, and I hope my experiences help others see that each small step forward is a victory worth celebrating. Just like my Make It Uncomfortable podcast, I believe that leaning into discomfort is where the real growth happens, and it’s starting to get easier. It will for you too.
The “Heeling” Journey
Life often pulls us in all directions, much like my Cocker Spaniel, Rocky, on our daily walks. Using a Gentle Leader, I encourage him to “heel,” knowing the journey would be easier if he slowed down. It hit me—how often do we rush forward in life without allowing ourselves to heal? In this blog, I reflect on the importance of slowing down, taking time to rebuild after life’s challenges, and learning to walk in step with our own healing process. Sometimes, the best way forward is to pause and truly “heel.”
